Summer is the perfect time to get outside, enjoy the warmer weather, and find movement that feels good. Whether it’s a walk on the golf course, a hike on a local trail, a swim at the lake, or trying something new, there are plenty of ways to stay active without feeling like exercise has to be a chore.
We asked members of the Pembina Valley Physiotherapy team about their favourite ways to incorporate movement into the summer months, as well as what advice they would share with others looking to stay active and healthy this season.
A Little Summer Inspiration
For many of us, summer movement is less about structured workouts and more about taking advantage of the outdoors. Finding activities you genuinely enjoy can make it easier to stay consistent while also giving you a chance to recharge and enjoy the season.
Getting to Know Indigo
What’s your favourite way to incorporate movement during the summer?
My favourite way to incorporate movement in the summer is to walk the golf course. I also really enjoy hiking or swimming at the lake on warmer days.
What’s your biggest piece of advice for the summer — from an Athletic Therapist?
My biggest piece of advice this summer is to find ways to move outside! You don’t need a perfect workout or a structured training plan. Go for a walk, hike, bike ride, swim, play a sport, garden, or simply spend some time being active outdoors. This summer, focus less on how much you’re doing and more on moving consistently, moving in a way you enjoy, and giving your body a chance to recover. Your body was made to move, so get outside and enjoy it!
